Voicemail

Optus VoiceMail is your personal answering service that allows callers to leave messages for you. Ensure you divert your calls to VoiceMail for those times when you cannot take calls. You can receive up to 40 messages and unread messages are kept for 28 days.

VoiceMail also allows you to communicate with a select group of people at the same time. VoiceMail offers a cost effective alternative to making numerous calls about the same issue. It can be tailored for both business and personal use, and you can change your group distribution lists when you choose.

Features

Plenty of Storage

Your VoiceMail Box can store up to 40, three minute messages. Messages that are unread will be stored for 28 days and read messages for 10 days. If you use SureFax then your 40 message capacity is shared between faxes and Voice messages.

Choose how to receive your VoiceMail messages

Just as your needs evolve and change so does your voicemail. You can now choose from a variety of message delivery methods. Simply choose the one that suits you best:

  • VoiceMail SMS Me: The traditional SMS notification of a new VoiceMail. You then dial 321 to hear your new message. All voicemail services have this option as a default.
  • VoiceMail MMS Me: Alternative where you can choose to have your Voicemails delivered straight to your MMS compatible handset as an audio MMS.
  • VoiceMail Direct: If you have a compatible handset you can download and install the client which will give you access to your voicemails just like an email inbox.

For more information on any of these features or to change your voicemail delivery method you can log in to the Optus Zoo and follow the links to the 'Set up Voicemail' section

View Terms and Conditions

1. When a caller leaves a message on a Customer’s VoiceMail the network will attempt to send a message waiting indicator to the customers phone (some older style phones may not support this indicator).
2. If the customers phone is not within coverage or is turned off, the network will continue to send the message wait indicator for a period of up to 7 days or until the message wait indicator is received by the phone.
3. VoiceMail messages are stored on the network for 10 days if the Customer has heard (read) the message; or 28 days if the Customer has not heard (read) the message.
4. VoiceMail provides customers with the following feature.
Wake Up/Reminder Call - allows a Customer to request the VoiceMail box to ring a specified number at a specified date and time. The Wake Up/Reminder Call received will be a recorded voice announcement indicating the date & time. Wake Up/Reminder calls can be sent to Australian PSTN or Australian mobile numbers within Australia. There are some exceptions including 13, 1300, 1900 and emergency services numbers. A Customer may only have 2 outstanding Wake Up/Reminder Call requests at a time. These 2 requests must be to the same phone number. Each request may be for recurring Wake Up/Reminder calls or a once off call.
5. For customers connecting to 321 VoiceMail the following features will be available.
- VoiceMail Call Return - allows a Customer to return a call without exiting the VoiceMail box.
- VoiceMail Call Return is only available when Customers access their VoiceMail boxes from their mobile phones.
This feature is based on the ability of the VoiceMail box to capture the caller's telephone number; to record a number entered by the caller; and to allow the Customer to enter a telephone number to return the call.
6. The caller's telephone number will not always be captured by the VoiceMail box including when:
The callers line has a temporary (call by call basis) or permanent (including a silent line or when the callers Supplier does not provide the CLI facility) block on sending CLI.
- The call was an international call;
- The call was from a payphone;
- The number was overridden by a number entered by the caller.
7. When the VoiceMail Call Return call is completed, the Customer is still connected to the VoiceMail box and so can continue to access remaining VoiceMail messages.
8. Some numbers, when entered by the caller or the Customer, will not be accepted as Call Return numbers including international numbers, 13, 1300, 1900 and emergency services numbers.
9. VoiceMail Call Recall sends a short text message including the caller's phone number to a Customer's mobile service (some older style phones may not support this feature) indicating someone called but did not leave a message.
10. A VoiceMail Call Recall message will only be sent to the Customer's mobile phone when:
- The caller was diverted to VoiceMail; and
- The caller's number was captured via Call Line Identification and the caller hangs up without recording a message (ie. before or within 1.5 seconds of the recording tone).
11. The charges for a Customer's calls to and from the Voicemail box (including Group VoiceMail) are detailed below. Mobile originated calls to the VoiceMail (including Group VoiceMail) box to retrieve or otherwise process a message will incur the following air time: Peak Charge per thirty seconds: $0.15 ($0.165) Off-Peak Charge per thirty seconds: $0.10 ($0.11) Calls to retrieve messages are charged the above air time charge. Calls to request or edit a Wake Up/Reminder Call are charged as normal mobile calls to retrieve VoiceMail (above). The Customer will be charged the standard charge for the type of call made to send the Wake Up/Reminder Call, eg. the charge for a local call, national call, call to mobile etc. For VoiceMail Call Return calls the Customer will be charged the VoiceMail air time charge above plus Optus standard charge for the type of call made using VoiceMail Call Return, eg. the charge for a local call, national call, call to mobile etc. Calls to redirect (or otherwise process) SureFax faxes are charged as normal calls to retrieve VoiceMail (above).  The system generated call from the VoiceMail box to send any SureFax faxes to the Customer's specified facsimile number will be charged the standard charge for the type of call made eg. a Local, National Long Distance, or International Long Distance Call. Calls diverted to VoiceMail will be charged the standard charge for diversion.
For the purpose of calculating the charge of a call type dependent on distance, the location of the Customer's VoiceMail box is used not the Customer's location when making the call
12. VoiceMail MMS Me: You must have a MMS compatible handset to use VoiceMail MMS Me. Charges of 35c per message apply regardless of successful delivery or not. In the event that your MMS Me message cannot be delivered for either of the following reasons 1) message size exceed the maximum, 2) network has been unable to deliver the message to your handset for the maximum allowable time, then you will receive an SMS notification of your new Voicemail. If you change your handset to one that is not MMS compatible your will continue to be sent and billed for MMS Me messages until you modify your voicemail delivery settings to another method. Pre-paid customers must maintain a credit balance of at least 16c to continue to receive their MMS Me messages. Roaming GPRS charges will apply when receiving MMS Me messages whilst roaming overseas. Charges will apply for any content purchased from the Zoo images library

For VoiceMail Direct subscribers who do not have a compatible handset, please note you will not receive any VoiceMail Direct notifications when new messages are left. If using VoiceMail Direct on your handset whilst roaming, standard roaming GPRS charges will apply. Pre-Paid VoiceMail Direct customers must maintain a credit balance of at least 16¢ to be able to access their voicemails through this service, otherwise their subscription terminates and their voicemail selection is set to SMS Me. You must pay a monthly subscription charge of $5.00 to use Voicemail Direct. If you use VoiceMail Direct on your handset whilst roaming, standard roaming GPRS charges will apply.
14. If a customer decides to port away from Optus, any Optus service previously provisioned will be unavailable from the time of the successful port. This includes all SMS and VoiceMail messages whether pending or stored.  Availability of Optus Mobile digital services is subject to handset compatibility.
